SUMMARY:
The Employee Relations Administrator at East Texas A&M University (ETAMU) is to help staff members explore issues, concerns, and conflicts; provide information and referrals to other University resources and help resolve matters at the earliest and most informal level. The Employee Relations Administrator provides systemic concerns to the university in a confidential manner. This position will be an advocate and active practitioner of the Office of Human Resources Mission Statement, Values, and Commitments. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as the designated administrator and primary point of contact for all employee relations issues, advising employees and supervisors on employee relations issues across university departments; assists managers with performance improvement plans and disciplinary documents.
- Oversees and facilitates supervisor training on employee performance evaluations, ensuring timely completion and compliance.
- Resolves conflict, coordinates communication. Facilitates clear, respectful communication and works toward resolution of issues between employees and supervisors. Advises supervisors how best to handle performance and behavioral issues.
- Develops, updates, provides guidance and interpretation on human resources (HR) policies and procedures. Conducts research on best practices, policy, regulation, rules, and laws.
- Provides confidential conflict resolution to resolve nonacademic disputes and other problems for University staff.
- Coordinates involuntary terminations and other disciplinary actions. Reviews requests and documentation to ensure compliance with policies and rules and coordinates the approval process with the Office of General Counsel.
- Assists in resolving employee/work related problems. Consults with supervisors and assists in developing employee performance improvement plans. Ensures the confidentiality of employee consultation records.
- Responsible for reporting process for the employee complaint process.
- Develops training materials and provides training on employee relations matters. Ensures training materials and resources are current with Federal and State laws, System policies and regulations.
- Reviews various HR-related reports and surveys to ensure data accuracy, support institutional effectiveness, and meet deadlines for state and federal agencies.
- Develops and produces a variety of research-related state and federal reports. Responds to requests for information and prepares ad-hoc reports and query analysis in desired formats in a timely manner. Coordinates the production of automated and manual weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports and data analytics based on defined HR metrics.
- Update and maintain departmental procedures to ensure compliance with The Texas A&M system regulations and standards.
- Manage unemployment claims and represent the university in hearing, ensuring timely responses and proper documentation.
- Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Four (4) years of related experience.
- Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of methods and equipment used in electronic data processing, including system analyses, design, and computer programming techniques.
- Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to listen, analyze, negotiate, and develop resolutions to problems. Ability to facilitate group interactions, trainings, and presentations.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Human Resources experience and/or knowledge in one or more of the following functional areas: Employee Relations and Data Analytics, Total Rewards, Compensation, Classification and Talent Acquisition, Front Office, Onboarding, and Student Hiring, and Compliance, HRIS and Immigration. Higher Education experience. Society For Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certification and/or Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) Certification. Demonstrated working experience with Workday, Nuventive, Concur, Canopy/FAMIS, Mane Market, Laserfiche, Maxient conduct software.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
May supervise HR functional units, student workers and graduate assistants.
