PURPOSE
The Program Coordinator will oversee and grow the Sink Your Shucks™ Oyster Recycling Program, focused on reclaiming and recycling oyster shells to restore oyster reefs in the Texas Coastal Bend. This role ensures smooth, year-round operations, supports logistics for shell collection and outreach, handles stakeholder communication and restaurant relationships, expands educational outreach, builds volunteer programs, and fosters partnerships. The ideal candidate will be organized, experienced in managing logistics/operations, a proactive communicator, and passionate about environmental conservation, with the flexibility to handle program needs outside of regular business hours.
DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Program Logistics & Operations
Percent Effort: 30%
Job Duties
  • Oversee shell collection and event logistics to ensure smooth program operations, which may include occasionally operating motor vehicles.
  • Hire, supervise, and train shell collection technicians and event volunteers, coordinating schedules and monitoring performance.
  • Manage shell collection activities, establish and maintain partnerships with participating restaurants.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring the program has necessary resources for daily shell collection and outreach activities.
  • Ensure safe and reliable program vehicle maintenance and scheduling.
Functional Area 2: Communication & Impact Reporting
Percent Effort: 25%
Job Duties
  • Develop strategies to communicate program success and environmental impact.
  • Create reports, newsletters, and social media content for community and partner engagement.
  • Track and report program impact metrics.
Functional Area 3: Educational Outreach & Youth Engagement
Percent Effort: 25%
Job Duties
  • Strengthen partnerships with local schools and assist in the development of environmental education resources for students.
  • Represent the program in schools and the community to foster environmental stewardship.
Functional Area 4: Volunteer Program Development
Percent Effort: 10%
Job Duties
  • Create and manage a structured volunteer program with roles for ambassadors and team leaders.
  • Coordinate and train volunteers for events and ongoing community engagement.
  • Develop a framework to maximize volunteer contributions to program goals.
Functional Area 5: Partnership Expansion
Percent Effort: 10%
Job Duties
  • Build and maintain relationships with restaurants and community organizations.
  • Leverage partnerships to expand oyster shell recycling and host events promoting conservation.
  • Pursue new partnerships to enhance program impact and community engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Four (4) years of related experience
  • Additional experience/education may be used as a substitution for the minimum qualification requirements:
    • Associate's degree with six (6) years of related experience.
    • Master’s degree with two (2) years of related experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with partners and team members.
  • Experience in communication and impact reporting, including creating digital content and reports.
  • Proven skills in logistics management and event coordination.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking or youth engagement.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends for program needs and events.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
  • Experience managing program vehicle logistics
  • Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in volunteer management, including recruitment and training.
  • Experience developing community or school outreach programs.
  • Familiarity with trailer towing and maneuvering.
Note: This position is grant-funded. Continued employment is contingent upon continued funding.
SALARY: $4,931.42 - $5,801.67 approx. monthly ($59,177 to $69,620 approx. annually)
