This position is primarily responsible for providing oversight for Access Services, including circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan, and reference services, along with other responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates the library’s reference service, including scheduling, employee training, and service evaluation.
- Serves as the manager for the library’s LibAnswers platform and provides training and support on that platform for other library staff.
- Creates resources to assist others in providing high-quality reference services and plans continuing education and training opportunities for reference staff.
- Provides reference services via chat, phone, email, and in person.
- As a member of an instruction team, provides information literacy instruction sessions both in-person and online, and creates lesson plans, learning objects, and assessments as needed.
- Coordinates Access Services functions, serving as supervisor for three (3) full-time staff in circulation, course reserves, and interlibrary loan services.
- Maintains familiarity with the fulfillment functions of the library management system, the course reserves platform, and the interlibrary loan program, being able to perform basic day-to-day tasks associated with these services when the respective staff member is absent.
- Creates and updates policies and procedures as necessary in consultation with Access Services staff, Director of User & Research Services, and library administration.
- Addresses service and personnel issues as necessary to promote smooth operations and maintain a high standard of customer care.
- Increases professional competence through formal or informal study and professional development activities and is encouraged to develop a record of scholarship/creative activity.
- Serves on library, university, and/or professional committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
- At least five (5) years post-MLS work experience in an academic library. At least one (1) year of relevant academic library experience in a public services capacity.
- Evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, and initiative.
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills and willingness to experiment with new methods and technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with library colleagues, faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of relevant academic library experience in a public services capacity.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience providing reference services in multiple modalities.
- Experience with Springhare’s LibAnswers platform.
- Experience with ExLibris Alma, Leganto, and/or OCLC Tipasa.
- Experience developing and teaching library instruction sessions.
- Experience with coordinating a program or service, including assessment.
- Experience with non-traditional and/or first-generation college students.
- Demonstrated contribution to the profession, including scholarly publications and/or presentations and service to professional organizations.
