Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) is a regional comprehensive university with over 8,000 students (Fall 2024) enrolled in undergraduate programs and select graduate programs. It has transformed rapidly into a growing urban university during the past decade. Part of the statewide Texas A&M University System, A&M-SA is located on 694 acres in south San Antonio and serves a diverse student body, offering academic programs that meet regional needs. The Executive Director - Library and Special Collections reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for providing strong leadership to the Texas A&M University-San Antonio Library, Special Collections and Archives team. Provides leadership for departmental functions to include planning, directing, and evaluating departmental operations. Provides oversight of business activities, strategic planning and development, and program administration. Functions as Library liaison and representative on Academic Affairs and University committees as needed.
Responsibilities : Leadership
- Articulate the role of the library in meeting the changing needs and priorities of students, faculty, staff and community including the digital landscape.
- Provide management, development, evaluation as well as recruitment of library personnel. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with university and System policies and applicable laws.
- Foster strong relationships, collaborate and support university stakeholders in the development of new programs, curriculum and resources related to the library academic services.
- Advocate for the library in institutional processes for planning, budget development, policy development, and decision making.
- Support and facilitate a culture of shared governance within the library.
- Provide operational and administrative support to the Library, Archives, and Special Collections.
- Develop long and short-term planning of library collections, services, and spaces.
- Develop long and short-term goals, strategic priorities and plans for the library.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of library programs and services to meet the diverse needs of students and faculty. Coordinate services and collections that support academic programs delivered in a variety of methods and at a variety of on-and-off-site venues.
- Develop strong relationships with deans of colleges, senior administration, students, faculty, staff and community.
- Analyze, coordinate and administer departmental budget environments.
- Coordinate facilities planning to maximize space utilization, ensure compliance with governmental codes and provide optimal working and learning.
- Develop, implement and manage library resources.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the Library. Evaluate library programs and services regularly using outcomes to improve services.
- Seek external funding and writing grant proposals for enhancing Library programs, collections and facilities.
- Report IPEDS and ACRL statistics and write accreditation reports.
