The School of Engineering Medicine at Texas A&M University invites applications for the position of Instructional Assistant Professor, Instructional Associate Professor, or Instructional Professor, commensurate with qualifications, and Assistant Dean of Evaluation and Assessment. This is a full time, non-tenure track faculty appointment. This important role involves the systemic evaluation and assessment of the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) programs to ensure they meet the highest standards of academic excellence, accreditation requirements, and institutional objectives. In addition, this position will help develop a culture of continuous quality improvement, in part, by collaboration and by contributing to the process of data-informed decision making and consistency. This is a full-time, 11-month, academic professional track (non-tenure) appointment with a start date in the Spring of 2025. The School of Engineering Medicine is headquartered in Houston, Texas, adjacent to the Texas Medical Center.

This position will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and will work closely with leadership, including Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, Department Heads, faculty, and staff, as well as external academic and clinical partners. The successful candidate will play a valuable role in maintaining and enhancing the integrity of our medical and engineering programs. All faculty are expected to conduct scholarly activities, to teach and supervise students in areas relevant to the mission and vision of the school and contribute service to the school.

Duties Include:

Program Evaluation:

Develop and implement comprehensive evaluation plans to assess the effectiveness of the school’s medical and engineering programs. These evaluations will encompass all phases of the educational programs (e.g., pre-clerkship and clerkship phases, and both medical and engineering programs), as well as faculty and staff satisfaction.

Evaluation of Educational Assessments and Student Success:

Develop effective methods to evaluate and monitor all aspects of educational activities (e.g., quizzes, examinations, narrative evaluations, question banks, exam grading systems), and student-based surveys.

Data Collection and Analysis:

Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources to inform program development and improvement.

Accreditation Compliance:

Ensure all programs meet accreditation standards set by relevant accrediting bodies, including preparing necessary documentation and reports.

Continuous Quality Improvement:

Identify areas for improvement and work with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to implement changes that enhance program quality.

Reporting:

Produce detailed and actionable reports on program effectiveness and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.

Collaboration:

Work closely with internal faculty and administration, and external academic and clinical partners to align educational outcomes with program goals and institutional objectives.

Training and Support:

Provide workshops, training, and support to faculty and staff on evaluation methods and best practices.

Innovation:

Stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in program evaluation and assessment to bring innovative solutions to the school.

Minimum criteria to be required for an applicant to be deemed qualified (degree, experience):

  • MD, MD/PhD, DO, PhD, JD, EdD or other equivalent professional degrees
  • Demonstrated expertise related to programmatic and educational assessment and evaluation. Flexibity to work with others who represent a diverse range of organizational functions
  • A minimum of 5 years of experince in program evalution and assessment of educational outcomes, preferably in a medical or academic setting. Experience with data collection, analysis, interpretation, strategic planning, time management, project management, and develop action plans
  • Administrative and/or educational experience in a medical school, academic medical center, or teaching hospial. Ability to manage projects, personnel, and prioritize self-direct workflow
  • Ability to create customized reporting tools to support ongoing improvements in the work and educational environment, programmatic and curricular processes, and student services. Provide data that will be intergrated into accreditation processes
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion when handling sensitive data and sharing information
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis software and web-based survey tools. Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail-orientated, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team. Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in continous quality improvement (CQI) and process improvement
