The Health Science Center (HSC) – McAllen is looking for a Dietitian to serve as a member of the Healthy South Texas (HST) Team. Under general supervision, the Dietitian is responsible for planning and providing nutrition services to members of the Texas A&M University- RGV community. The ideal candidate has excellent customer service skills and has a passion to inspire community members to lifelong wellbeing. The Dietitian develops, implements, and evaluates health education programming focusing on prevention, risk reduction, and health promotion. Provides nutrition counseling services and assessments.

Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience in administrative dietetic programs and processes.
- State License and American Dietetic Association Registration and License (RD/LDN) or ability to obtain within 90 calendar days from date of hire. Certification must be maintained as a condition of employment.
- Two years of experience in providing bilingual diabetes education classes.
- Experience working with individuals and communities.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and Spanish.
- Working knowledge of spreadsheet, presentation and word processing software programs.
- Knowledge with the diabetes illness, diabetes medication adherence and conducting HbA1c tests.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to plan and organize effectively.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
- Instruction on Diabetes: Provides group and individual instruction in a variety of programs including: 1) diabetes self-management care and education 2) Fall Prevention Programs; 3) nutritional component of Texercise; 4) Asthma and COPD; and 5) other programs under Healthy South Texas and the McAllen Campus. Develops educational program material, learning resources, and evaluation tools for specific educational dietary interventions with a focus on nutrition. Prepares and delivers presentations. Instruction is delivered in a variety of urban, rural, and classroom settings.
- Education on Diabetes: Conducts clinical HbA1c and Cholesterol tests. Conducts initial and follow-up assessments for program participants, patient record keeping, and program evaluation in accordance with the program and certifying entity guidelines. Charts nutrition notes in participants charts. Provides nutrition counseling, and individual educational consultations with the participants. Conducts cooking demonstrations. Stays well versed in new trends of evidence-based practice in the area of diabetes, fall prevention, physical activity, asthma and COPD.
- Collaboration: Serves as a member and attend meetings of the Diabetes Education Center's Advisory Committee and other committees as designated. Maintains collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners. Participates in health fairs, and in public speaking engagements. Serves as a campus resource for dietary information. Travels to various locations within Rio Grande Valley for program activities in a personal or University vehicle.
