What we want

Join our vibrant team as the Economic Statecraft Program's Project Coordinator I, taking the lead in developing and managing project plans from budgeting to implementation. This part-time role includes 10% travel to Washington DC.

You’ll streamline workstreams, maintain meticulous documentation, and ensure seamless communication between the Program Director and research teams. Additionally, you’ll coordinate and attend key meetings with stakeholders, clients, and team members, while also supporting the undergraduate economic statecraft internship program. Be a pivotal part of the Economic Statecraft Program, coordinating and assisting with impactful research projects in economic statecraft.

What You Need To Know

Salary: Compensation is commensurate to selected hire's qualifications

Part-Time Position: This is a part-time position, working 15 hours per week

Travel: This position may require up to 10% or more travel to the Washington DC Metropolitan Area

Grant Funding: This part-time position is funded by a grant or contract and is contingent on the renewal and award of that funding

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international affairs/relations, political science, economics, or security studies or equivalent combination of education or experience
  • Three years of related experience in in research administration, assistance, or management, or in project coordination, administration, or management


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Detailed knowledge of economic statecraft, security implications of economic activity, and strategic competition with China
  • Strong foundation in international relations, political science, or security studies
  • Commitment to learning about and specializing in the economic statecraft public policy niche
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines


Responsibilities

Project Coordination and Management:

  • Participate in project design meetings and propose improvements or solutions to roadblocks if necessary
  • Assess and prioritize potential problems and technical issues and work with research leads and support offices (IT, TAMU Libraries, Business Services, etc.) to develop solutions. Coordinate the development, design, purchase, installation, and implementation of software services needed to support research objectives
  • Maintain database integrity, security, and accuracy
  • Coordinate multiple work streams to ensure cross-project dependencies and impacts are identified and managed
  • Plan and manage team goals, project schedules, and workstream structure.
  • Prepare forecasting and progress reporting against milestones and budgetary updates
  • Coordinate adherence to project budget by monitoring expenses, implementing cost-saving measures, and purchasing project materials


Research Support:

  • Coordinate project-related paperwork by ensuring all necessary materials are current, properly filed and stored
  • Provide feedback and quality control on research products such as proofreading, conceptual evaluation, visualization, formatting, and design input
  • Review manuscripts for publication and identify potential publication outlets and requirements
  • Create, establish, and maintain project files, databases, correspondence, and project materials


Compliance and Policy Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and required training, including trainings regarding controlled unclassified information (CUI) and other information security trainings
  • Interpret policies, rules, and regulations and ensure ESP’s research teams are compliant


Supervision and Staff Support:

  • May supervise student research staff and train and develop team leads for research workstreams as needed


Who We Are

The Bush School’s Economic Statecraft Program is a novel effort that seeks to analyze economic statecraft, bring together academics across the world, and serve as a linkage between policymakers and academia. It is led by Dr. William J. Norris, an Associate Professor at the Bush School, who also directs the China Studies concentration. The Program conducts academic and policy-oriented research on economic statecraft and hosts events like the Economic Statecraft Conference, an innovative venue in Washington, DC, facilitating dialogue between academia and practitioners.
