The Program Aide - Fitness Instructor IV ensures the safety of all participants by using proper form and techniques learned in the training program prior to instructing. Educates participants in the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
Responsibilities
Fitness Instructor
- Instruction Ensures the safety of all participants by using proper form and techniques learned in the training program prior to instructing.
- Educates participants in the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
- Continues personal growth and knowledge by attending mandatory training workshops.
- Provides assistance in the monitoring of class enrollment by checking aerobic class passes.
- Ensures the safe use of exercise apparatus.
- Answers participants questions before and after class to answer participants’ questions.
- Attends semester workshops/meetings. Assists with certification preparation.

Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in assisting or teaching group exercise, with participation experience in group exercise.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Certification required in group exercise, personal training, or aqua. Accepted certifications: AFAA - Athletics and Fitness Association of America, ACE - American Council for Exercise, ACSM - American College of Sports Medicine, NASM – National Academy of Sports Medicine, IAR - Institute of Aerobic Research, AEA - Aquatic Exercise Association.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Flexible in instruction: low impact, high impact, step, slide, resistance training, dance fitness, bootcamp, aqua, barre, mind/body, indoor cycling, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
- Knowledge of the benefits of aerobic exercise.
- Basic understanding of the cardiovascular system, anatomy, and kinesiology. Interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Moderate to high personal fitness level.
- Available before and after class to answer participants’ questions.
