Tenure Track: Assistant Professor and Tenured: Associate/Full Professor

Texas A&M University
College Station, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 2/26/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/9/2025
The Department of Communication and Journalism in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for two tenure/tenure-track positions, one at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) and one at the level of Associate Professor (tenured) or – Professor (tenured). Successful candidates will be expected to publish, seek grant opportunities, teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and engage in service activities. Both members will join our new Communication & Media Science Division, each with a research focus on the impacts of new and emerging media and information technology on society. Both positions are full-time, 9-month academic appointments, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025.

Ideal candidates will have a robust research agenda focused on the impacts of new and emerging media and information technology on meaningful societal outcomes. Areas of interest may include those driven by technological innovations, such as digital and computational communication, misinformation and disinformation, digital ethics, algorithmic bias, and the influence of artificial intelligence on media practices, as well as those arising from social shifts, such as post-truth communication, networked publics, platformization, and the mediatization of society. We are particularly interested in research that addresses pressing social issues, including those that reinforce the department's strengths in political, health, organizational, and/or science communication and journalism. Scholars with expertise in using innovative empirical methodologies to study these topics, including big data analytics, computational social science, and experimental research, are encouraged to apply. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to and shape the research landscape within our new Communication & Media Science Division, which will begin admitting doctoral students in fall 2025 into a program with expanded and advanced science training.

The Department of Communication and Journalism administers BA and BS degrees in the fields of communication, media, and journalism, and we offer PhD and MA degrees in Communication. We have over 40 faculty members, more than 35 communication graduate students, and approximately 1,700 undergraduate students. The department promotes a welcoming and supportive workplace and is organized into three broad research and curricular divisions: Communication & Media Science, Humanities & Critical/Cultural Studies, and Journalism & Media Practices.
