What are the responsibilities and job description for the Brewery Packaging Manager position at Texas Beer Company?
Our Packaging Manager works with our team including Head Brewer and Cellar Lead and assists with most aspects of beer production from preparing to brew, to cellar work, packaging product and getting orders out the door. The role requires autonomy and the ability to take personal responsibility for critical aspect of our brewery operations. Experience running a Wild Goose canning machine is a major plus but we are willing to train the right person.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Wild Goose Canning line and all associated equipment such as depalizer, date coder and cBox
- Clean and sanitize, bright tanks, packaging equipment, and other areas of brewery
- Assist in operation of GEA Centrifuge
- Drive fork lift
- Assist with clean-in-place (CIP) of brewery equipment, cleaning of brewery and cellar areas, and cleaning of lauter tun when necessary
- Palletize finished goods in a neat and orderly manner
- Build orders, including assembling variety packs, for distributors
- Assist in all aspects of operating brewhouse fermentation and bright tanks, and related equipment
- Assist with measurement and recording of quality control data, including temperature and gravity
- Clean and fill kegs with use of keg washer and keg filling manifold
- Assist with equipment repair and maintenance as needed
- Taste beer for quality control prior to transferring and packaging
- Work with our team on special projects and events as needed
Necessary Qualifications
- Willingness to be a team player, ask questions, take direction and be flexible
- Experience working in a brewery a plus
- Proficiency in cellar and packaging operations, beer production, and lab processes preferred but not required
- Ability to and interest in developing a working knowledge of the brewing process.
- Healthy interest in the underlying scientific principles governing fermentation and the performance brewing calculations
- Attention to detail, especially recording inventory and quality control data, and experience working independently
- Great verbal and written communication skills and ability to multitask as part of a small team taking ownership of all duties necessary for successful production
- Ability to acquire and develop knowledge of CIP, sanitizing principles, pneumatic systems, industrial electricity, mechanical power, fermentation, canning lines, kegging equipment, and labeling machinery Eagerness to learn and utilize our brewing production software Ekos
- Ability to lift and move 165 pounds repeatedly. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as stoop, crawl, climb and work in tight or active/crowded spaces. Willingness to work in all weather conditions
