What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL Driver position at Texas Building Supply?
Job Summary
We are seeking a CDL Driver I to deliver materials to job sites, inspect and maintain trucks, and report shortages and claims to supervisors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate safely and maintain a positive work environment.
- Maintain a current Class A or B Commercial Driver's License as required.
- Prepare DOT required log of time on duty and driving.
- Organize and secure loads, assist forklift operators when loading, and check orders for accuracy.
- Deliver and unload materials to customers' satisfaction.
- Complete daily equipment pre-inspection and record all merchandise that is returned by truck.
- Follow guidelines established by the Department of Transportation and provide excellent customer service.
- Relay messages sent by customers while on the job and assist supervisor, other employees, and other work areas as assigned.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the yard and warehouse, comply with all company policies and guidelines, and operate truck-mounted forklifts safely and efficiently.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- CDL experience preferred, but basic CDL experience with flat beds and/or tractor trailers is required.
- 1-3 years CDL experience is required for interstate commerce.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to do basic math, read orders, write instructions, and complete forms.
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers, other employees, and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
- Ability to deal constructively with conflict and recognize potential problems.
- Maintain current operator's license and meet company driver qualification requirements.
- Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques and proficiency with or ability to learn current technologies.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Class A CDL License required.
- Additional Potential Opportunities based on experience: CDL Driver II, CDL Long haul, CDL Wide Load, CDL Driver Boom Crane, Non-CDL Driver I, and Non-CDL Driver II.
