HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING...
- Conduct highly complex detailed analyses of anthropogenic emissions inventory data. Develop ad hoc queries from multiple databases (State of Texas Air Reporting System and Texas Air Emissions Repository). Develop visualizations (e.g., graphics, charts) based on data analysis and lead global quality assurance efforts to improve datasets. Prepare datasets for posting on the internet or sharing with stakeholders, including legislative interests.
- Develop and evaluate plan and criteria for calculating, compiling, interpreting, and conducting quality assurance on anthropogenic emissions data. Develop ad hoc queries to identify and research data discrepancies within appropriate databases. Work with Emissions Assessment Section staff to revise or update data and related development methods as necessary, verifying corrections were made in database.
- Prepare highly complex reports, including State Implementation Plan (SIP) revisions, and presentations for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), management, legislative interests, and other stakeholders regarding air quality data and anthropogenic emissions. Present findings to the public, other regulatory agencies, and management. Conduct peer review of technical reports, presentations, and documents.
- Organize, oversee, and coordinate project activities related to the development, quality assurance, and/or evaluation of emissions data, including grant and contract development and management. Actively works with Emissions Assessment Section staff and participates in national, state, or internal work groups to develop and improve air emissions estimates. May consult on database development projects as directed by management.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience retrieving (querying), reviewing, and analyzing complex data sets
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting databases or data repositories that use the extract, transform, and load (ETL) process
- Experience creating and maintaining visualizations of data by using dashboards or other data visualization tools
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Four years of full-time experience in data analysis, data research, data compilation; and/or reporting work.
OR
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, basic science, computer science, environmental studies, mathematics, statistics or a related field; plus two years of the required experience.
OR
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; plus three years of the required experience.

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Data Analyst III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Data Analyst III series.
