General Description
ABOUT THE Division
Join the Information Technology team as a Network Specialist! Work involves the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the agency’s network, a local area network or wide area network, Internet and intranet systems, and other data networks. Monitors and troubleshoots existing infrastructure. The candidate must have the ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply knowledge appropriately in a highly active environment with ever-changing circumstances. Work Hours
Must be able to work an eight-hour schedule between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, 40-hour week, Monday – Friday with occasional work schedule variance when necessary. Perform on-call duty on a rotational basis and occasionally work additional hours based on business peaks. Hours may change based on business need.
Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3 days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.

This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out some duties. It requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers. Must be able to lift 75 pounds using proper lifting and safety techniques as well as pull, push, reach, stretch, kneel, crawl, stoop, crouch, climb, and walk.
Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED.
- Twelve (12) years of experience in supporting network infrastructures.
- Eight (8) years of experience in supporting advanced network infrastructures
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate or higher degree in information technology, engineering degree or related.
- Data Center network infrastructure
- Cloud infrastructure
- Cloud network infrastructure
- Cisco voice and network infrastructure systems
- Configuration and administration of routers, switches and firewalls
- Virtual Private Network (IPSEC and SSL)
- Maintaining and supporting Cisco managed wireless networks
- Network access control – network firewalling and advanced firewall capabilities
- Network security tools – network IPS
- Web proxy implementation, administration and monitoring
- Network performance monitoring and capacity management
- Administration of Windows servers
- Administration of Linux servers
- Engaging vendor support
Applicable and current technical certificates may substitute for years of experience
- CCNA – 2 years experience
- CCNP – 4 years experience
- CCIE – 6 years experience
- Cisco CCNA, CCNP and/or CCIE.

In this role you will:
- Architects, modifications and enhancements to existing enterprise network to support business needs of the agency
- Installs, configures, tests, upgrades, and maintains network equipment and software
- Analyzes existing network and system procedures for efficiency and effectiveness
- Receives high level instructions for tasks and activities
- Organizes instructions into details tasks
- Supports and maintains monitoring solutions
- Troubleshoots existing infrastructure
- Supports second level incidents
- Engages vendor technical support
- Utilizes agency ticketing system to enter and track problems and work requests
- Plan, prepare, execute, support, analyze, and document of disaster recovery events
- Creates and provides regular and ad-hoc reports for supported systems and applications
- Analyzes, recommends, and implements system changes for efficiency and performance
- Creates automation routines using scripting and other programming languages
- Assists development and project teams in designing applications consistent with established architecture
- Leads and suggests new activities and direction
- Research, documents, and recommends budget requirements for the agency network infrastructure
- Serves as technical lead on projects as necessary

- Troubleshoots existing network infrastructure
- Supports first level incidents
- Participates in rotating 24x7 on-call schedule
- Participates in disaster recovery testing and events
- Plans, schedules and coordinates Network team activities
- Assists manager/supervisor in distributing and balancing workload among employees in accordance with agency and division priorities as well as established workflow or essential functions
- Creates, maintains, and updates business processes
- Research, develops, oversees and documents operating procedures for technical support, troubleshooting, maintenance, optimization and systems administration techniques
- Conducts training of staff prior to implementation of systems, provides advice and guidance during and post implementation.
- Oversees, trains, and mentors other team members on adherence to accepted operating procedures
- Recommends to management systems technology solutions and enterprise-related hardware and software standards
- Performs other related duties as assigned
