The Director of Communications and Member Relations contributes to Texas PTA’s mission by providing strategic and operational oversight of the Association’s communications and membership efforts.
The ideal candidate will be a solutions-oriented nonprofit professional adept at prioritizing and allocating tasks for efficient workflow, proficient in strategic thinking and multitasking, highly skilled in persuasive long- and short-form writing, storytelling, sales, and marketing, and experienced in motivating, training, and supporting both volunteers and staff.
The Director of Communications and Member Relations must demonstrate the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, exhibit a proactive and action-oriented approach, embody a passion for volunteers, and hold a vested interest in making every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. This is a full-time, in-office, exempt position with a generous benefits package. Some evening and weekend work is required, as well as occasional travel.
Responsibilities
The Director of Communications and Member Relations oversees, directs, and implements the Association’s communications and membership efforts.
Communications
- Develop and implement effective communication strategies that build the Association’s brand awareness and loyalty.
- Utilize all communication platforms to inform and equip volunteers to grow the association and further our mission.
- Effectively narrate the Association’s story by developing and managing content across various channels, including email, social media, podcasts, websites, videos, and collateral materials.
- Support Association staff and volunteers’ communications needs.
- Supervise the Communications Coordinator.
Membership
- Collaborate with the Membership Vice President to establish growth goals, implement strategies, manage committees, and report progress to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Maintain year-over-year monthly membership growth.
- Analyze and monitor membership data to identify trends and opportunities for growth.
- Ensure outward-facing tools are maintained to inform, equip, and motivate volunteers to grow membership.
- Maintain the integrity of membership data.
General
- Collaborate with the Director of Programs and Resources to coordinate, prioritize, and oversee the workflow of the Communications and Programs Coordinator.
- Demonstrate a flexible, positive, proactive, and solution-focused approach to addressing challenges.
- Answer inquiries from leaders regarding communications and membership.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers.
- Perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Board of Directors, as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, or a related field, required.
- Impeccable written and oral communication skills required.
- Video production and editing experience required.
- Design experience preferred.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Sales, marketing, or advertising experience preferred.
- Website administration experience preferred.
- Podcast production experience preferred.
- Nonprofit experience preferred.
- Volunteer training and support experience preferred.
- School district communications experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Emma.
- Spanish and other language proficiencies are a plus.

Salary: $90,000.00 - $97,000.00 per year
