GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Performs entry-level accounting work for the Accounting Operations Section of the Finance & Operations Division at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Work involves performing detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, or reports. Work includes data entry into agency accounting systems, which include Centralized Accounting & Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS). Specializes in accounting work related to cash handling, preparing deposits, and performing reconciliations on revenue transactions. Works under close supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provides effective and efficient customer service in a professional manner to agency employees and managers.
Performs data entry for journal vouchers, revenue deposits, and other electronic transactions.
Receives cash, prepares deposit slips and maintains cash control records.
Compiles and distributes accounting reports and spreadsheets pertaining to such matters as online credit card transactions, cash receipts, and refunds of revenue.
Verifies and distributes warrants for payroll and vendors in accordance with agency and state requirements.
Assists with tracking reimbursements and invoices to ensure payments are made in a timely manner.
Maintains, scans and secures files and accounting documents. Pulls documents and downloads electronic files.
May audit vouchers, claims, invoices, requisitions, purchase orders, statements and similar records and reports.
May classify, code and enter financial vendor and payment information in Centralized Accounting & Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS), and Texas Identification Number System (TINS).
Ability to interpret and articulate agency policy and procedures.
May recommend improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the internal revenue systems and accompanying procedures.
May travel up to 5% of the time. May drive and travel to attend and represent the Department at meetings, seminars and conferences. Travel by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel.
Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent plus familiarity with accounting and financial operations.
Two (2) years' experience in general office administration or cash handling work.
Education and experience may be substituted for each other on a year for year basis.
(Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)
Preferred Requirements
Six to twelve hours of college coursework in accounting.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Telework may be available based on TxDMV operational needs. Must attend meetings/training at headquarters in Austin, Texas as required by management.
During remote work, employees must meet these criteria for the remote work location:
- Adequate desk space in a dedicated, contained area that is secured and protected at all times.
- Remote work location is in a quiet environment free of background people and noise during business hours.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within ninety (90) days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
