Legislative Communications Associate
The Texas Freedom Network (TFN) seeks a part-time Legislative Communications Associate based in Austin, Texas. TFN is a statewide non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.
The Legislative Communications Associate will play a key role in developing and executing our legislative communication strategy. The primary responsibilities of the LCA will be to provide on-site coverage at the Capitol, media relations, and content development. The Legislative Communications Associate will report to the Senior Communications Director and will work closely with our legislative and communications teams. This position will run until the end of the 89th Legislative Regular Session.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide on-site coverage of legislative hearings, committee meetings, and other Capitol events, producing real-time updates and summary content

Support the planning and execution of media events, including press conferences and briefings at the Capitol

Draft and edit various communications materials, including legislative briefs, blog posts, messaging guides, and social media content related to legislative priorities

Monitor and report on developments relevant to our organization's legislative priorities

Help coordinate rapid response communications during the legislative session

Contribute to the development of legislative communication strategies and messaging
Qualifications and Skills

Based in Austin, Texas with consistent availability during business hours and reliable transportation to get to and from the Capitol

Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in political or policy communications preferred

Demonstrated ability to translate complex policy issues into clear, compelling content

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Experience with social media platforms and digital communications

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting

Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor for interactions with legislators, media, and community partners
Preferred Qualifications

Spanish language proficiency

Prior experience working in the Texas Legislature or covering legislative affairs

Experience in event planning and media relations

Knowledge of Texas political landscape and legislative process
Pay & Benefits

$21 per hour

$115 monthly remote work stipend
