The Texas Freedom Network (TFN) seeks a part-time Legislative Political Assistant based in Austin, Texas. TFN is a statewide non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.
The primary responsibilities of the Legislative Political Assistant will be tracking bills, monitoring hearings, and research. The Legislative Political Assistant should be passionate about civil rights, the legislative process, and research. The Legislative Political Assistant will report to the Political Director and assist the Political Coordinator.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Monitoring the legislative process and keep the Political Director and Political Coordinator updated

Assisting in monitoring legislative public hearings

Managing daily bill tracking of legislation filed during the 2025 legislative session

Assisting in policy research related to the legislative session and key local policy initiatives

Supporting the Political Department in implementing the endorsement process

Supporting the TFN team in their local policy advocacy

Collaborating with other TFN departments and programs on related work
Qualifications and Skills

Demonstrate a commitment to the progressive values, mission and goals of the organization

Well organized, resourceful and persistent

Highly motivated self-starters who are able to work independently and in a team environment

Have strong interpersonal skills, experience meeting deadlines, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Comfortable working in a fast paced environment

Ability to work 4-6 hours a day for 4-5 days per week

Able to coordinate with others well and be an effective communicator

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Able to draft legislative briefs and blogs is highly valued, but not required
-
Ideally have some experience working in a non-profit organization or on a political campaign
Pay & Benefits

$21 per hour

$115 monthly remote work stipend
