(30%) Assist the Deputy Commissioner in the management, coordination, and oversight of division programs and staff. Provide advice to the Deputy Commissioner regarding planning and strategic operations of consumer protection programs and their impact. Lead the management of the day-to-day operations of the Division. Evaluate Division operations and makes recommendations to develop and implement process improvements. Formulate strategic solutions on matters involving consumer protection activities and advises accordingly. Manage relationships with stakeholder groups and other groups that are affected by Division activities. Serve as back-up to the Deputy Commissioner.
(25%) Represent the Deputy Commissioner at internal and external meetings and serve on committees, task forces, and interagency workgroups as requested. Oversee information technology projects for the division. Conduct periodic evaluations to determine if objectives are being met and report finding and recommendations for improvements to the Deputy Commissioner and agency leadership. Work with the Division leadership to identify and resolve risks and issues.
(25%) Supervise and manage Division human resource initiatives and office staff. Responsible for hiring and selection, assigning work, coaching, and other personnel actions as well as scheduling and approving leave. Plan, assign, and supervise the work of position’s direct reports and guide staff priorities, initiatives, and work schedules to achieve objectives and performance indicators. Conduct performance evaluations and monitor the ongoing activities of staff.
(15%) Provide guidance and support for rules, legislatively mandated reports, action memos, budget issues, requisitions, grants/contracts, and emergency response. Review internal and external communications strategies and plans for the Deputy Commissioner.
(5%) Perform other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience within the past 5 years in public administration (development/implementation of government policies) in a regulatory field. Experience managing complex projects and initiatives impacting multiple units, departments, or divisions; minimum of 7 years full-time experience in an operational/administrative management role directing professional staff. Clear, well-written/well-organized and complete application (showing job fit and application completeness, including lack of typos and blank fields). Consideration will also be given to known past job performance, if applicable, and prior work history.
Preferred:
- MPH, MPA, MBA or equivalent
- Experience directing Public Health programs
- Experience with a Health and Human Service agency
