Brief Job Description:


The Texas Health and Specialty Care System (HSCS) is seeking a Forensic Services Coordinator II (FSC II) to join the Office of Forensic Services and Coordination (OFSC). The FSC II works under the direction of the Director of Clinical Forensic Services and ultimately the State Forensic Director, in the Office of Forensic Services and Coordination.


The FSC II (Social Worker II) performs complex (journey-level) social services. The Forensic Services Coordinator II performs and documents complex social services work including serving as a liaison between the individual, legally authorized representative, Judicial branches, Corrections Depts and others to assure ongoing care, treatment and support using person centered practices for transitioning into and out of State Hospitals or contracted facility care for treatment.

The FSC II works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position may be eligible for telework.


The salary will be offered in accordance with the salary range posted for this position. Salary requests outside of the range in the posting will not be considered and is non-negotiable. For internal applicants, salary negotiations must align with the HHS Human Resources Manual and align with the salary range for this posting. For internal applicants, salary requests beyond the salary range in this posting or that require higher level approvals will not be considered.


Essential Job Functions (EJFs):


Attends work on a regular basis and may be requested to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.



Acts as a vital intermediary between county jails and various referral sources to facilitate the acquisition of essential medical and clinical data, thereby aiding in the accurate assessment of hospital placement. (25%)

Collaborates in the oversight of individuals on the forensic waitlist, ensuring they are placed in the most suitable program based on their commitment type and the specific details of their clinical condition. This involves ongoing monitoring and assessment to ensure optimal placement and treatment. (25%)

Compiles and generates an array of comprehensive reports including for Expedited Admission Reviews and Clinical Security Reviews and documentation protocols specifically tailored for the high-security units, meticulously adhering to established procedures and standards. This includes the preparation of detailed records and statistical analyses. (15%)

Fields inquiries from family and community members, judicial partners, law enforcement agencies, state hospital staff, and leadership. (10%)

Collaborates in the creation and refinement of educational materials and resources for internal and external stakeholders. (10%)



Collaborates across the broader system, including with the Continuity of Care team and the SSLCs, enabling a thorough assessment of a person’s condition and facilitating optimal placement. This process involves close collaboration with the internal team, with a focus on ensuring each patient's unique needs are met through comprehensive evaluation. (10%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. (5%)

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:


Licensure in accordance with Texas Board of Social Work Examiners.


Initial Screening Criteria:


One year of job experience in social services work and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in behavioral sciences, social sciences, humanities, or a related field.
