Brief Job Description:
The Lead Joint Trainer serves as an advanced-level nurse trainer and leader within Long-term Care Regulation. This dynamic role blends direct instructional responsibilities, mentorship, and strategic curriculum development to ensure effective training outcomes for Regulatory Services surveyors and long-term care providers across Texas. The position plays a pivotal role in enhancing training delivery through both virtual and in-person modalities, represents the department internally and externally, maintains critical training resources, and contributes significantly to staff development. Extensive statewide travel (approximately 45%) is required to fulfill departmental training objectives and stakeholder engagement needs.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
- Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions for long-term care providers, LTCR surveyors, and other relevant provider groups statewide. Includes departmental representation at external training events, professional conferences, and special meetings. Create and post training alerts announcing training session dates. (45%)
- Collaborate closely with the department manager and stakeholders to create, develop, review, and update training curriculum and resources. (30%)
- Mentor new and tenured Joint Training staff in effective training methods, facilitation skills, departmental guidelines, state expectations, and adherence to work rules. Includes observing Joint Training staff performance and providing constructive feedback aimed at enhancing their professional growth and instructional skills. (15%)
- Maintain SharePoint site and serve as liaison to the Curriculum and Training team, providing accurate training data and reports to leadership. (5%)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
- Adult education principles and practices
- Current nursing practices in long-term care settings
- Long-term care regulation survey process
Skill in:
- Written and oral communication
- Use of applicable computer software to include LTCR applications and LMS platforms
- Identifying problems, evaluating alternatives, and implementing solutions
Ability to:
- Understand and manage group dynamics, and make decisions quickly and effectively
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Work independently and as part of a team
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Registered Nurse (RN)- Current Texas licensure
Initial Screening Criteria:
- Experience delivering presentations and facilitating group training sessions, required.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience, preferred.
- Experience with regulatory long-term care surveys, preferred.
Additional Information:
Position available statewide; candidate may reside anywhere within Texas. Austin preferred for operational convenience.
