Graduate Nurse Residency – General Surgery Med Surg – July 2025
Integrated into a Hospital’s education structure, the Texas Health Graduate Nurse Residency Program includes a guided clinical experience with an instructor-led core curriculum, a formal mentoring program, informative debriefing / self-care sessions and supportive 360-degree evaluations. Residents not only participate in the learning experience on their personally selected home units, but they also rotate / cross train through other departments to gain an expanded nursing experience vital to the complex patient care.
The Texas Health Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive, evidence based on-boarding program with a 15-month employment commitment that offers new graduate nurses an exciting opportunity to gain the experience, judgment, skills and confidence to successfully navigate the complexity of hospital life.
Department Highlights :
Justin Tower 6th Floor is a 36-bed unit primarily caring for adolescent to geriatric aged, postoperative, general surgical patients, urological surgical patients, hepatobiliary surgical patients, and a select group of medical patients. Primary diagnoses, conditions treated, and postoperative surgeries include but are not limited to : Endoscopy, appendectomy, hernia repairs, splenectomy, Whipple procedures, liver resections, gastrectomy, eye surgery, cholecystectomy, gastrointestinal bleed, hand surgery, colostomy, ileostomy, thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, urological surgery, kidney stones, continuous bladder irrigation, bowel resection, pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, neck dissection with flap, Nissan fundoplication, plastics related wound care, ear nose and throat (ENT), oral surgery, tracheostomies. We have a 1 : 4 Nurse to patient ratio with a free charge nurse.
