Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and oversight to nursing staff, including direct care RNs and LVNs, during the assigned shift.
Serves as the point-of-contact for other interdisciplinary staff, coordinating nursing services for assigned areas or the SSLC as a whole.
Responds to emergency situations, assessing nursing services and ensuring safety and care of individuals and staff.
Coordinates with medical staff and administrative personnel to ensure optimal care.
Performs complex nursing work, including comprehensive physical health assessments, health screenings, and treatments.
Evaluates and documents healthcare needs and issues, reporting them to the appropriate person(s).
Assists with on-the-job nursing instruction and training of other nurses, providing feedback and coaching.
Develops and presents information for inservice training or staff development, as assigned.
Models appropriate interaction with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their family members, and staff members.
Essential Functions:
Maintains a professional, harmonious working relationship with facility employees and outside agency employees.
Keeps informed of and follows all agency and facility policies and procedures.
Attends work on a regular basis, working specific shift schedules, extended shifts, and overtime as needed.
Makes adjustments to nursing assignments based on call-ins and immediate needs of individuals served.
Delegates work assignments to nursing staff within the assigned area, reporting significant nursing coverage issues to administrators.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of nursing techniques, standards, and procedures; health care laws and regulations; medical diagnoses and procedures; community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of state and federal laws, ICF-IID rules, regulations, policy, and procedures related to State Supported Living Center or ability to quickly gain that knowledge.
Skills in the use of computer/software and electronic health record systems; exceptional physical assessment skills; exceptional organizational skills;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in both written and oral communications, and via telemedicine equipment.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Six (6) months experience working as a practicing registered nurse is required; two years is preferred. At least one (1) year of experience as a practicing registered nurse in a health agency, hospital, or healthcare facility is preferred. Bachelor's Degree is preferred. Nursing supervisory experience is preferred.
