As a member of the executive leadership team, the Vice President & Chief Operating Officer is responsible for providing administrative direction, evaluation, and coordination of the functions and activities for areas of responsibility. The COO is also accountable for achieving financial/operational/ service delivery objectives of the hospital.
Chief Operating Officer has the following duties and responsibilities:
Operations:
- Provide executive leadership and direction for area of responsibility delegating activities as required for safe, efficient and effective operations.
- Promotes an environment of collaboration between medical staff and care teams ensuring the needs of patients and consumers are met.
- Ensure implementation of policies, procedures, and standards that direct operations and creates operational efficiency.
- Provides leadership oversight for facility improvement initiatives within assigned areas, including construction or renovation projects and the purchasing of new equipment.
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams to develop and operationalize new services and programs.
- Collaborate with medical staff, hospital and other service providers to continually improve care delivery and the consumer experience.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies or accrediting bodies
- Provides direction in emergency or crisis situations.
- Performs other work as requested that is reasonably related to the position, qualifications, and competencies.
Strategy and Business Development:
- Participates in short and long-term strategic planning for the hospital.
- Works with strategic alliances and partnerships to collaboratively execute business strategies.
- Articulate strategic plan and tactics to leaders within area of responsibility to create alignment and establish priorities.
- Adapt operations to emerging market demands.
Quality and Performance Improvement:
- Ensure the integration of quality and performance improvement into operations.
- Establishes performance measures and ensures that a continuous improvement approach is used to measure actual performance against established standards.
- Ensure areas of responsibility are performing within standards for quality.
- Identifies and implement interventions necessary to improve performance.
- Assures compliance with applicable regulations and standards of accreditation
Financial Performance:
- Operationally responsible for the financial performance including operating and capital budgeting for assigned area of responsibility.
- Optimizes the utilization and availability of resources.
- Provides input to staffing and resource planning within areas of responsibility.
- Measures actual budgetary performance against standards and ensures variances are within established targets.
Culture:
- Promote and foster a diverse, highly engaged and collaborative work environment within area of responsibility.
- Consistently practice strategic human resources management. Motivate others to achieve excellence in patient care, quality, safety, service and stewardship
