Job Summary: The NBHSA will work directly with families at Texas Hearing Institute (THI) to ensure all infants who fail their universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) in the hospital, receive diagnostic testing and intervention promptly. Our mission focuses on meeting the “1-3-6” Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) guidelines. Generous donations to our pediatric, non-profit clinic allow us to remove barriers that may impact a family's access to medical care. The NBHSA will participate in outreach activities within the community to maintain current referral partners, foster new collaborations, and expand referral networks by promoting our audiology services.
Responsibility/Duties:
Collaborate with local hospitals, birthing centers, and doula programs to ensure all newborns receive a hearing screening at birth. Manage scheduling appointments for auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing for newborns that failed their UNHS at birth. Assist families with scheduling an appointment with an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) physician once hearing loss is diagnosed. Monitor the infant’s timeline of appointments: Referral date, first appointment, follow-up visits. Coordinate referrals to outside specialists as requested. Manage referrals for speech therapy evaluations, Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) services, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing services. Identify transportation needs and provide solutions to ensure timely access to medical services. Confirm patient outcomes in the Texas Department of State Health Services Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (TEHDI) database. Manage scheduling appointments for testing at our remote clinic in Lufkin, TX Interpret for Spanish-speaking families. Assist audiologists during clinical appointments. Attend monthly cochlear implant team meetings and provide updates, as necessary. Monitor referrals from organizations within the community. Communicate with the Director of Audiology and CEO on a weekly basis. Provide quarterly reports to the Director of Audiology and CEO Document patient timelines and hearing test results within Excel spreadsheets. Develop Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) strategies to: Improve and maintain “1-3-6” EHDI guidelines within THI.
Bachelor’s Degree

Stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; public speaking; hear; see; bend, able to lift fifteen pounds; drive a motor vehicle. The job requires extensive computer use; employees must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard/mouse and computer screen for extended periods.

Responsibility/Duties:
- Strive to reach “1-2-3” EHDI guidelines within THI.
- Public Speaking: Increase community awareness about UNBHS test results.
- Expand current referral networks.
- Work with local hospitals, birthing centers, and doula programs to ensure all newborns receive a hearing screening at birth or within one month of birth.
- Bilingual - Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish, including active listening and the ability to effectively communicate with parents and various pediatric professionals.

- Advanced knowledge of Excel:
- PivotTables
- Charts
- Logical formulas (IF/AND/OR/IFERROR/ISNA)
- Complex lookups (vlookups, hlookups, index/match)
- Optimization functions (goal seek, Solver, circular references)
- Experienced with the management of large data sets: 200
- Ability to communicate with parents and professionals through various modalities: telephone, email, fax, and virtual meetings to present and obtain necessary information.
- Previous experience with children in any capacity
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Work independently
- Adjust to short-term change quickly and calmly, so that you can deal with unexpected problems or tasks effectively.
- Ability to tolerate delays, roadblocks, and unforeseen problems without becoming discouraged.
