What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician for Mental Health TMS Clinic position at Texas Hill Country TMS?
Texas Hill Country TMS is looking for a full-time TMS technician at our upcoming Boerne location! We solely offer repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), primarily for treatment-resistant depression. TMS is a non-invasive office-based procedure that is safe and effective with minimal side effects. TMS technology uses magnetic energy to activate underactive depression circuits, increase BDNF, increase brain blood flow, release dopamine and more.
Our new team member will have a period of time to be trained to use the TMS machine, earn their TMS Certification, and once certified, will start delivering daily TMS treatments to anywhere from 10-20 patients per day as the business grows. They will be compensated during the training period and will be asked to drive to Burnet for training sessions. If candidate does not have their BLS certification we will also arrange for BLS training/certification to occur in the first week of training.
No prior experience with TMS is required; however, a willingness to learn and become proficient in this treatment modality is a requirement. This position will be working closely with and under the supervision of a practice manager as well as under a board-certified psychiatrist; there is easy access for discussing patient care and our team meets daily in our morning huddle.
Ideal Qualifications:

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Technician Responsibilities:
- Scheduling TMS treatment appointments 5 days per week; practice manager may also schedule patients into technician's workday
- Administering TMS treatments according to protocols provided by mental healthcare professionals.
- Punctuality; must arrive to office in time to turn on and warm up TMS machine, set up relaxing environment for patients during treatments-scent/music, have any necessary forms ready for signature
- Enabling effective treatment by accurately positioning the TMS equipment's electromagnetic coil.
- Ensuring head and neck support in order for patients to remain completely still during sessions.
- Explaining TMS procedures and its possible effects on patients, as well as answering questions.
- Creating a supportive treatment environment and demonstrating compassion.
- Assisting patients to complete psychiatric rating scales weekly as well as promoting reviews.
- Recording session notes and collaborating with certified TMS psychiatrist and practice manager on patient care.
- Weekly meeting with practice manager
- Other weekly or monthly meetings as deemed necessary
- Updating patient census spreadsheet
- Sending coordination of care letters and other regular correspondence with current and former patients
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Technician Requirements:
- Successful completion of TMS certification based on initial training provided.
- Successful completion of TMS literature provided during training period
- Experience working with patients suffering from anxiety and depression preferred.
- Demonstrable proficiency in electronic health recordkeeping software
- Willingness to learn how to administer TMS treatments and assume high-level responsibility.
- Ability to work under supervision and collaborate with mental healthcare professionals
- Advanced ability to ensure patient safety and comfort, as well as answering questions.
- Proficiency in taking session notes and assisting patients to complete psychiatric rating scales.
- Exceptional communication, as well as interpersonal skills to guide and reassure patients.
