THE THC DEVELOPMENT OFFICE: The Texas Historical Commission, by statutory authority, has a development office within the THC’s Administrative Division. This development team includes the THC Chief Development Officer, the DevelopmentManagers,andtheOfficeManager/Bookkeeper,allofwhomarestateemployees.PeraMemorandumof Agreement between the THC and the non-profit 501(c)(3) Friends of the Texas Historical Commission, the THC Development staff also staffs the nonprofit organization, whose mission is to partner with THC to preserve and protect the real places and real stories of Texas and all Texans, securing philanthropic resources to ensure a lasting legacy for future generations.
JOB OBJECTIVE: Nonprofit Fundraising and Development. Lead the individual and corporate giving program for the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission, to help build philanthropic support for the Texas Historical Commission’s (THC) programs and projects. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling, and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; andsafelyliftingandcarryingitemsweighingupto30pounds.Applicantsmustbewillingtotravel,andovernighttravel is required. This position attends and sometimes presents at conferences, meetings, and workshops, requiring evening and weekend work hours. - Manage alistofmajorgiftprospects(individual),includingconductingprospectresearchand reporting, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts for operating support as well as for specific programs and projects.
- Manage all aspects of the FTHC Annual Fund program (the Spirit of Texas Program), including donor acquisition, creatingandcoordinatingsolicitations,trackinggifts,andensuringtimelyacknowledgments.Work with the Office Manager on the implementation the program.
- Launch and managethecorporategivingprogram,toincludebuilding, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding corporate prospects, including buildingsponsorshipandpartnershipsupportfortheannualRealPlaces Conference.
- WorkwiththeEDandtheBoardtostrategicallyimplementacomprehensivePlannedGiving Program.
- DonorRelations and Communications
- Overseeaccuracyandcurrencyofdonordatabase,maintainandcoordinatestandardoperatingprocedures.Work with the office manager on day-to-day donor database management, including uploading all donor information and communications into NEON.
- Write,edit,andmanagedonorcommunications,specificallysolicitations,acknowledgments,and emails, as well as reports for individual and corporate donors.
- Generateregularreportstotrackannualfundraising goals for individual and corporate giving.
- ProgramandProjectDevelopmentand Support
- Partner with the FTHC team to createand/ordevelopandexpand,withguidancefromtheBoardandtheED,distinctFTHCprogramsor projects, including education and outreach programs.
- Coordinate aspects of these programs or projects as required and as directed by the ED, including cultivating donor relationshipsinsupportoftheprograms/projects,andsolicitingindividual or corporate gifts;and coordinating any required annual planning processes for the programs/projects.
- WorkwiththeEDto support the Development Seminars/Workshops program.
- Communications and Outreach
- Manage,refine,andupdateallwebandonlinecontent related to fundraising and planned givingwithfeedbackandguidancefromtheED.
- Support the implementation of the FTHCcomprehensivecommunicationsplanforongoingcommunicationswithdonors,partners,and with the FTHC and THC leadership.
- SupportFTHC’svirtualeventsprogram as needed.
- SupportthedevelopmentoftheFTHCnewsletter includingcontent development as needed.
- Participate in the development ofmarketingmaterialsandpromotionsfor FTHC.
- EventandMeeting Management
- Work as part of FTHC staff team, withguidancefromtheEDandboard, on the planning and implementation of the biennialgalaandotherspecial events.
- AssistinbuildingFTHCboardandcommitteemeetingagendasandboardmeeting planning.
- Facilitateboardactionitemsandfollow-upthatrelatetoTHC divisions.
- Financial Management
