Description
Blood Service Coordination:
- Manage blood product handling, storage, and documentation in collaboration with Carter Blood Care.
- Ensure compliance with blood bank protocols and transfusion safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of blood product usage, inventory, and quality control measures.
Collection:
- Assist with the flow of patients from the waiting area to exam rooms as needed.
- Collect specimens from the patient using the approved sequence and procedure.
- Ensure specimen and blood tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
Specimen & Pathology Management:
- Oversee proper collection, labeling, storage, and transportation of specimens.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines for specimen handling and pathology workflows.
- Coordinate with pathology departments for timely processing and reporting.
- Ensure proper collection, preservation, and tracking of tissue samples.
- Coordinate with the surgical department for accurate ordering and documentation and the pathology department for accurate reporting.
Documentation & Record-Keeping:
- Maintain all daily logs and reports for specimens, tissue samples, and blood products for quality control.
- Ensure all documentation is up to date and meets compliance standards.
- Assist in reporting and investigating any discrepancies or concerns.
Quality Assurance (QA) & Compliance:
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures for specimen, tissue, and blood management.
- Conduct audits and inspections to ensure adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, and biohazard handling protocols.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with Clinical Directors and clinical staff teams to streamline processes.
- Provide education, training, and support for staff regarding proper handling and documentation procedures.
- Serve as a liaison between nursing, pathology, and blood services.
Process Improvement & Training:
- Identify areas for improvement in specimen, tissue, and blood service workflows.
- Assist in clinical staff training on best practices for specimen and blood product management.
Restocking & Monitoring Supplies:
- Restock and monitor supplies in relation to assigned areas.
Professional Communication:
- Communicate professionally with patients, family members, and peers.
Adaptability & Flexibility:
- Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to changes in the schedule and/or work assignments necessary to meet the changing needs of the individual patient or unit.
- Must work within the scope of practice.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Training:
Licenses / Certifications:
- LVN License
- Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Experience:
- 1-3 years experience preferred.
