TMRS Overview:
The Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) is a statewide public retirement system established in 1948 to provide retirement, disability and death benefits to employees and retirees of participating Texas cities. TMRS manages $40 billion in assets for more than 925 Texas cities.
Who we are looking for:
Reporting to the CIO, the Investment Operations Director will be a key member of the investments team. The Director of Investment operations will be responsible for managing the team responsible for TMRS’ custodial activities and reporting, as well as overseeing TMRS’ investment data and technology systems, and quality control functions for a multi-asset-class portfolio.
The role you’ll play:
- Manage the Custodian Bank relationship
- Validate the appropriateness of fees and expenses requested by fund managers
- Process capital calls and cash movements
- Review and process custodial documents (e.g., POAs, proxy voting, etc.)
- Reconcile investment manager holdings and securities pricing
- Reconciliation and preparation on monthly, quarterly and annual reports
- Filing tax reclaims
- Vendor and invoice management
- Maintain investment operations and data management procedures and SOPs
- Manage CRM system
- Integrate technological systems and improve data management
- Support investment team’s analytical and data visualization needs
- Oversee portfolio performance verification and reporting
- Support Board and weekly investment reporting production and automation
- Open records request support
What qualifications you should have:
- Eight (8) or more years of investment operations and management experience with an institutional investor or asset manager.
- Recent experience working directly with institutional custodian (preferably State Street)
- Strong understanding of public and private markets
- Passion for process improvements, public service, and team collaboration.
- Proactive self-starter, able to work collaboratively and motivate others.
- Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree (e.g., CPA) preferred.
