Job Overview
A print technician graphic designer combines the technical skills of a print technician, operating printing equipment and ensuring quality control, with the creative design abilities of a graphic designer, creating print-ready artwork, layouts, and visuals for a variety of printed materials, while maintaining a strong understanding of print production standards and processes to deliver high-quality finished products; essentially acting as a bridge between design and production in a printing environment
Responsibilities
- Develop and design engaging graphics for websites, social media, marketing materials, and other digital platforms.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create cohesive designs that align with brand guidelines.
- Utilize Adobe Creative Suite and CorelDraw to produce high-quality visual content.
- Implement web design principles, including HTML and JavaScript, to enhance user experience.
- Apply color theory and visual design techniques to ensure aesthetic appeal in all projects.
- Provide art direction for projects as needed, ensuring alignment with overall creative vision.
- Conduct photography sessions when required, capturing images that complement design work.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in graphic design and web development.
- Operate and maintain printing equipment like offset presses, digital printers, and finishing machines. Monitor print jobs during production, adjusting settings as needed to maintain color consistency and quality. Conduct quality checks on printed materials, identifying and addressing any defects.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Design Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Corel, with experience in designing for large-scale prints, signage, and apparel applications.
- Print Production Experience: Familiarity with specialty printers (e.g., large-format, vinyl cutters, DTG, sublimation) and basic troubleshooting/maintenance (e.g., printhead cleaning, color calibration).
- Approval Processes: Experience navigating approval workflows for design and print production.
- Attention to Detail: Strong proofreading skills with confidence in spelling, grammar, and print accuracy.
- Language Skills (Preferred): Bilingual (English and Spanish) candidates are encouraged to apply. Please indicate your language proficiency.
- Work Availability: Must be able to work occasional overtime during peak seasons, as some projects may extend beyond the standard 8 AM - 5 PM schedule.
Experience
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and CorelDraw is essential.
- Strong understanding of color theory, visual design principles, and art direction techniques.
- Previous experience in graphic design or a related field is highly desirable.
- A portfolio showcasing previous work that demonstrates creativity and technical skills is required.
Preferred but Not Required:
- Experience with apparel decoration methods (heat press, sublimation, screen printing, etc.).
- Knowledge of vinyl cutting and application for wall, window, and vehicle graphics.
- Hands-on experience with specialty print materials and finishing processes (e.g., laminating, contour cutting, fabric printing).
