Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Area Manager - Pharmacy and Admixture Services to join our team! This position is based out of Dallas, Texas. This position will also require up to 40% travel.

What does the Manager, Pharmacy Services do?

The Area Manager manages the operational, financial, clinical and fiduciary performance of pharmacies within assigned geographic area. Ensures all operations and services are conducted in accordance to federal, state and local laws and regulations and accrediting standards. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepares overall budget for each retail pharmacy site, as well as the overall retail pharmacy company, and provides assistance to sites for preparation of clinic budgets.
  • Monitors the performance of retail sites in relation to budget.
  • Develops and coordinates the drug management program for all assigned sites.
  • Analyzes drug usage data (clinical and retail) for all assigned sites.
  • Prepares reports and responds to requests for physician governing boards, site administrators, and USON regarding clinical and financial status of drug management at individual sites.
  • Assists with the recruitment, hiring, and training of pharmacists and technicians for both retail pharmacies and non-retail oncology infusion sties.
  • Coordinates coverage for TOWP taken by pharmacists and technicians within assigned geographical areas.
  • Performs evaluations of coverage personnel.
  • Assists in providing pharmacist coverage as needed.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Regional Operations establishes and implements policies relating to operation of retail pharmacy sites, as well as monitor quality assurance processes for both clinical and retail activities.
  • Identifies best practice standards and innovative approaches utilized by sites in the process of drug management and dissemination such information to all sites.
  • Assists sites in the implementation of best practices.
  • Assists within assigned geographical areas in compliance with improvement in financial performance by monitoring drug contract compliance, purchasing guidelines, charge capture, and drug utilization.
  • Performs annual audit of retail pharmacy sites to ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws relating to operation of a licensed pharmacy.
  • Supervises the activities of Pharmacy Managers and their staff within the area.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of pharmacy, Master's degree or PharmD preferred.
  • Minimum seven (7) years pharmacy experience, including at least three (3) years in management.
  • At least one (1) year of oncology pharmacy experience and three (3) years of pharmacy management experience.
  • Must possess current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist.

Must be able to view computer screen and printed material accurately. Rarely lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to direct contact with patients with potential for exposure to toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and chemotherapeutic agents. Work will require significant travel by air or automobile within the geographic area, approximately 40% of time.
