The Processing Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the extraction operations and Processing team at Texas Original’s production facility. This role will ensure the efficient and safe processing of bulk cannabis materials, lead the extraction process, and oversee the production of high-quality outputs to meet production schedules while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies. The role will involve personnel management, including hiring, training, evaluating, and addressing performance issues. The Processing Manager will drive operational excellence, implement process improvements, develop the team, and foster a culture of safety and quality within the department. This is a producing manager role.
\n- Manage all day-to-day activities related to the extraction and processing of bulk cannabis, ensuring compliance with company procedures, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Responsible for meeting or exceeding production targets and on-time delivery metrics, ensuring alignment with company objectives and production schedules.
- Develop team and machine schedules to maximize batch efficiency and reduce waste.
- Adhere to all relevant safety, environmental, and industry regulations at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of production batches, equipment maintenance, and testing results for compliance and auditing purposes.
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize yield, improve throughput, and reduce downtime, while maintaining quality standards throughout all processing and extraction stages.
- Ensure all extraction and processing equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning efficiently. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to prevent disruptions in operations.
- Coordinate with Lab and Quality teams to ensure products meet or exceed quality standards.
- Identify areas for process optimization and cost reduction while maintaining product quality and safety standards.
- Ensure the processingstaff adheres to safety guidelines and practices, including the proper handling and storage of flammable materials, chemicals, and solvents.
- Prepare and deliver regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), including production volume, yield, biomass consumption, labor, quality, and safety metrics.
- Maintain all department logs and check sheets.
- Complete work orders and maintainaccuratedepartment inventory using the company ERP system.
- Supervise, train, and mentor Processing Technicians to enhance their skills and ensure adherence to safety protocols, SOPs, and quality standards. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Perform Time and Attendance activities such as scheduling, processing time off requests and documenting time and attendance deficiencies among the team.
- Perform reviews, performance evaluations and career pathing activities for the team as set out by company policy.
- Maintain accurate and updated department SOPs for all processes.
- Participate in and occasionally lead R&D projects for new products or extraction methods.
- Support manufacturing teams in production activities when required (formulation, production, packaging).
- Prepare inventory reports in partnership with Compliance and Inventory teams.
- Monitor chemical waste inventory and coordinate pickups with approved vendors.
- Work with Facilities Manager to ensure PMs are completed and critical spare inventory is up to date.
- Support inventory management of consumables and materials for department through partnership with Inventory Manager.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies.
- 3 years of experience in cannabis extraction or manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Pharmaceutical, cosmetic, or food & beverage manufacturing experience considered.
- Flexibility in a quick moving, growing industry. Experience in a startup and/or high-growth environment preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of extraction methodology and scalability (hydrocarbon, ethanol, solventless, etc.).
- Experience and familiarity with laboratory and extraction equipment and comfort with troubleshooting, strong mechanical aptitude.
- Experience with Delta Separations ethanol extraction suite preferred.
- Familiarity with cannabis industry regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., state-specific laws, GMP, OSHA).
- Proven ability to manage and lead teams in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Experience with and working knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control procedures (QC).
- Extraordinary attention to detail and an eye for product quality and process improvement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE at all times.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
- Occasionally ascends/descends stairs to service various equipment.
- Frequently lifts, loads, unloads, moves, positions, and transports items up to 50 pounds
- This person may be exposed to dust, kief, cleaning chemicals, and fumes. Although systems are in place to remove these byproducts, there is still exposure to some degree.
- This person will be required to work in a C1D2 space and will be exposed to solvents used in the extraction process.
