What are the responsibilities and job description for the Referral Coordinator - Northwest position at Texas Orthopedics, a division of OrthoLoneStar?
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Serve as primary contact for facilitation and inquiries of referrals. Complete patient registration for new accounts and update existing accounts in computer system. Perform a variety of clerical duties involved in maintaining patient medical records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as both internal and external point of contact for all physician related referral needs.
- Complete registration and referral process for new and established patients that were scheduled.
- Track and monitor referrals from various sources to completion and provide an accurate daily report to the Service Center Manager.
- Assist with scheduling appointments for patients with attention to all insurance rules and per physician preferences.
- Import referral records into EHR system.
- Release continuity of care records and appointment status updates to physician offices as requested while following HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Schedule, Cancel, and Reschedule patient appointments as directed by Service Center Manager.
- Confirm Appointments as needed.
- Complete online appointment auditing, scheduling, cancelling, and rescheduling process.
- Return voicemails as well as make second and third attempts to patient’s missed calls.
- Note any discrepancy in chart information and report to Supervisor (ex. Duplicate chart numbers/misfiles).
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma
Experience:
- Previous experience in a medical office setting
- Proficient computer skills – Outlook, general Microsoft Office functionality, copy & paste function, ability to move in and out of applications with ease

- Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology
- Attention to detail
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to resolve and multi task
Physical Demands:
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, the ability to interpret and understand written material.
- Must have full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
