To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Under the direction of the Fleet and Radio Program Manager, this position performs complex (journey-level) telecommunications work including installing, maintaining, orienting, programming and repairing statewide radio system equipment including mobile relays, base stations, mobile units, handheld units and associated equipment and circuitry. Installs mobile radio units and related hardware in agency vehicles, boats, facilities. Programs handheld, mobile and base station radio equipment using personal computer and related software. Assists Fleet Management with various vehicle related tasks as required. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from High School or GED

Experience :

Three years of experience in installations, repair and programming of two-way radio communications equipment and associated equipment using current technology testing, programming software and repair equipment.

Experience performing installation work to vehicles, facilities and boats using common and related hand and power tools and equipment.

NOTE : Experience may have occurred concurrently.

Licensure :

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid Class "C" Texas driver's license.

NOTE : Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

Experience :

Successful completion of formal studies in electronics from an accredited college, technical institute or military training school may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of data processing and telecommunications principles, equipment, procedures, terminology, standards, and wiring technologies.

Knowledge of network operating systems.

Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission policies and procedures.

Skill in the use of telecommunications test equipment, computers and applicable software, and microcomputer and/or mainframe applications.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Ability to install, operate, and test telecommunications equipment.

Ability to analyze, diagnose, and resolve telecommunications problems.

Ability to interpret technical information.

Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Required to work overtime during peak workload season or for natural disaster technical support.

Required to work in adverse weather conditions.

Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

May be required to operate a State vehicle.

Required to travel up to 20% with possible overnight stays.

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

A non-smoking environment in all State buildings and vehicles.
