The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) is seeking a Communications and Outreach Manager to support its efforts in Washington, D.C. This position will play a critical role in amplifying TPPF’s research and policy initiatives through communications and external affairs efforts. The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial self-starter with a "whatever-needs-to-get-done" attitude, eager to contribute across multiple functions to advance TPPF’s mission.

The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit research-based think tank in Austin, Texas. Established in 1989, TPPF promotes conservative principles and develops free-market approaches to public policy challenges affecting Texans and all Americans. To achieve its mission, TPPF analyzes complex issues, creates legislative policy solutions, and advocates for those solutions at the Texas Legislature, Congress, and other public forums.

The Role:

Description:

The Communications and Outreach Manager will serve as a key support role in TPPF’s Washington, D.C. office, helping to craft and disseminate the Foundation’s policy messages, manage its social media, build relationships with stakeholders, and assist in external engagement efforts. This position requires a dynamic and adaptable individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to take on a variety of responsibilities.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Communications: Develop and execute messaging strategies to promote TPPF’s policy research and advocacy efforts. Draft releases, op-eds, social media content, and other materials to engage policymakers, targeted media, and other stakeholders.
  • Outreach Engagement: Assist in managing relationships with other communication professionals, marketing for TPPF’s initiatives, and coordinating opportunities for TPPF experts.
  • Government Relations Support: Support outreach with key congressional offices, agency officials, and other stakeholders to communicate TPPF’s research and recommendations.
  • Content Development and Dissemination: Work closely with policy experts and the communications team to translate research into accessible and compelling materials for targeted policy audiences.
  • Event Coordination: Assist in planning and executing TPPF-hosted events in Washington, ensuring seamless logistics and maximum impact.


Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of experience in communications, government relations, or public affairs, preferably in a policy organization or legislative office.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex policy issues into compelling narratives.
  • Entry-level experience with media and social media management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word) and familiarity with digital communication tools.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, can-do attitude and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to TPPF’s principles of liberty, personal responsibility, and free enterprise.
