A small business with a 40-year history as a first-class materials science and applied research and development firm seeks a motivated and detail-oriented material scientist to join our team. This role involves working in our polymer and chemistry laboratory to aid in materials development and conduct various tests, measurements, and inspections. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a lab environment, the ability to work independently, follow established procedures, document results accurately, and collaborate effectively with others. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform as a contributor in a polymer science research and development lab.
- Set up and operate production/test/measurement apparatus and perform chemical, thermal and mechanical tests as per established protocols.
- Accurately record and document data, ensuring compliance with defined methods and procedures.
- Prepare reports and present recorded data in a prescribed format.
- Operate laboratory equipment such as, thermal and mechanical equipment, vacuum pumps, and environmental chambers.
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues and develop solutions as needed.
- Maintain chemical and sample inventory, and perform routine lab maintenance such as cleaning glassware and equipment.
- Follow all safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe laboratory environment.
- Assist with other project-related tasks as required.
- This is an In-Person position and is NOT a remote role.

Requirements
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience working in a chemistry laboratory environment is required.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to analyze problems, troubleshoot, and develop practical solutions.
- Comfortable managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems by combining scientific knowledge and hands-on experiments to undertake specific tasks and projects.
- Effective technical communication skills, interpersonal communication skills, presentation skills, and technical writing skills.
- Proficient in MS Windows and Office Products.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and able to use a respirator.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a team-oriented environment.
- U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Industrial Security clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with developing, processing, testing, or formulating polymers.
- Experience in performing thermal and mechanical testing of materials.
- Experience in polymer production methods, and the scaling of polymer production.
- Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems by combining scientific knowledge and hands-on experiments to undertake specific tasks and projects.
