TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Length of position: 197 days
Hours: 8:00 am-5:00 pm
SUMMARY
Coordinates and conducts admission, and school wide annual and non-annual ARDs (Admissions, Review, and Dismissal meetings). Serves as a consultant for other ARD chairs in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) process. Works in a self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned. Become knowledgeable in Federal, State, and local special education law, regulation and rules. This position requires good interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively, as appropriate, with colleagues, students, parents, families, administrators and supervisors and public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Communicate and collaborate with the administrators, evaluators, and related service personnel regarding the need for the ARD meeting.
- Schedules, or assists in scheduling, Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings and notifies parents/families of the ARD meeting.
- Chairs and/or take deliberations at ARD meetings following the state and federal guidelines regarding students receiving Special Education or 504 services.
- Facilitates ARD committee discussions to help committee members communicate and collaborate effectively.
- Ensures compliance with federal and state timelines regarding ARD Committee meeting functions.
- Monitors ARD paperwork completed by campus personnel and maintains thorough documentation of any significant concerns or needs related to ARD Committee procedures.
- Prepares and processes ARD documents in the student information system (SIS) and special education databases.
- Follows through with paperwork/documentation/communication required as a result of the ARD meeting or amendment to the ARD meeting.
- Provides for systematic communication among TSD personnel (with respect to ARD meetings and decisions, IEPs, accommodations, relevant instructional concerns and progress).
- Develops IEP for new students and recommends placement based on previous school file review and evaluations completed by TSD staff.
- Assists with completing new students’ summaries including follow up when needed, with other staff.
- Accesses and updates appropriate databases as appropriate for student records.
- Participates in Student Support Staffings (SST) and staffings about students upon request.
- Supports new student registration at the beginning and throughout the school year as needed.
- Develops and drafts accompanying ARD paperwork, such as transcripts, when appropriate.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists with ARD training.
- Participates in workshops and trainings to maintain compliance and best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Certified as special education teacher or educational diagnostician
- Three years of teaching in special education or deaf education or assessment experience
- Experience complying with IDEA
- Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) is ADVANCED. If hired with a sign language proficiency level below this level, you are required to participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until you have achieved the sign language proficiency level assigned to your position.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
- Masters degree in related field
- Experience working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing
- Experience working with students who have multiple disabilities
- Prior experience chairing Admissions, Review, Dismissal (ARD) committees
- Knowledge of Special Education Laws
- Proficient signed communications skills
