Job Summary
This role will support many various facets of the Information Technology hardware, software, server, storage and network infrastructure and environments. This team member will be asked to support and interact with many other areas of the IT Department as necessary. The Systems Administrator will be responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware / software and administering system accounts. This includes the installation of physical and virtual servers. The role will be responsible for the administration, management and support activities associated with on-premise and cloud-based applications as required. The role is vital to ensure the operational integrity and availability of critical systems at the College. This position reports to the IT Technical Director and ultimately to the Vice President of Information Technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Configures hardware, software and operating systems to ensure that business operations maintain high availability.
- Designs / Ensures system integration success between critical systems.
- Designs group policies and access control lists to ensure compatibility with organizational standards, business rules, and needs.
- Manages, monitors and troubleshoots Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP.
- Manages Multi Factor Authentication and Single Sign-on in conjunction with other IT personnel.
- Manages databases and application programming interfaces as required.
- Maintains system access management including system accounts. Sets up system, administrative and end user accounts as required. Manages accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
- Conducts functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing operability.
- Develops and document systems administration standard operating procedures.
- Maintains baseline system security according to organizational policies.
- Plans, executes, and verifies data redundancy and system recovery procedures.
- Installs, updates, and troubleshoots systems / servers. This includes upgrades and patch management.
- Checks system hardware availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
- Complies with organization systems administration standard operating procedures.
- Manages system / server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
- Monitors, maintains performance tuning of system / server configuration, updates and patches.
- Manages Microsoft Azure environment, Microsoft Exchange / Outlook, Microsoft Office 365 tenants and Microsoft Defender.
- Manages Mobile Device Management systems such as Microsoft Intune.
- Applies SSL Certificates to systems and servers.
- Serves as SharePoint administrator.
- Oversees installation, implementation, configuration, and support of system components.
- Diagnoses faulty system / server hardware.
- Performs repairs on faulty system / server hardware.
- Troubleshoots hardware / software / network interface and interoperability problems.
- Assists users with retrieving documentation and data.
- Administers teleconferencing technologies such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Dialpad
- Sets up and maintains system backups and data backups
- Responsible for managing disaster recovery tools (Unitrends)
- Understands cloud computing requirements.
- Understands web services and web site management.
- Writes scripts / programming code to automate tasks like software installation, setting configurations, and system monitoring.
- Ensures security through access controls, backups and firewalls under the direction of the Technical Director (TD) and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
- Develops documentation to include technical information, diagrams, manuals, Standard Operating Procedures and IT policies as required.
- Interacts with the Executive Director of Applications (EDA) to ensure system availability and efficiency.
- Develops training materials for staff as required.
- Investigates new technologies and interacts with vendors under the direction of the Technical Director and the Vice President of Information Technology (VPIT).
- Follows information security protocols under the direction of the CISO.
- Follows change management and project management protocols as developed by the information technology department.
- Provides regular and ad hoc system reports as required, including responses for public information requests (PIRs).
- Participates in IT project planning as required.
- Participates in College events and exercises as required.
