Description
As a distribution center receiver you will be responsible for receiving incoming shipments, inspecting items for damage, verifying quantities against packing slips, sorting and storing merchandise, and maintaining accurate inventory records by documenting all receiving activities through paperwork or computer systems; essentially ensuring the proper receipt and storage of goods within the distribution center. Must have a good sense of urgency and a team-oriented and collaborative work ethic.
Key responsibilities of a receiver may include:
- Unloading shipments:
Physically unloading incoming deliveries from trucks using manual or powered equipment like forklifts. - Inspecting goods:
Examining received items for damage, defects, or discrepancies compared to the packing slip or invoice. - Verifying quantities:
Checking if the number of items received matches the quantity listed on the purchase order or invoice. - Data entry:
Recording details of received shipments into the warehouse management system (WMS) including item descriptions, quantities, and any damage reports. - Sorting and storing merchandise:
Properly organizing and placing received items in designated storage locations within the warehouse. - Addressing discrepancies:
Reporting any discrepancies or damaged goods to the appropriate personnel and initiating return or replacement procedures. - Maintaining inventory accuracy:
Ensuring accurate inventory levels by performing cycle counts and identifying potential stock issues. - Labeling and tagging:
Applying proper labels and tags to received items for identification and tracking. - Following safety protocols:
Adhering to warehouse safety procedures regarding lifting techniques, forklift operation, and personal protective equipment. - The DC receiver will also support general warehouse operations such as pick; pack, ship functions, cycle counting, and away.

Requirements
Skills and qualifications for a warehouse receiver:
- Physical ability:
Ability to lift heavy boxes and packages, stand for extended periods, and work in a fast-paced environment. - Attention to detail:
Meticulously checking quantities and identifying any discrepancies or damage. - Basic computer skills:
Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) for data entry and inventory management. - Math skills:
Ability to accurately calculate quantities and verify invoices. - Communication skills:
Effective communication with suppliers, warehouse staff, and other departments regarding receiving issues.
This role will also require experience with powered industrial trucks (a variety of industrial forklifts)
