Duties
- Assist optometrists during patient examinations by preparing the examination room and ensuring all necessary equipment is ready for use.
- Perform preliminary tests such as measuring visual acuity, taking vital signs, and recording medical history.
- Manage front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, checking in patients, and handling medical records.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient files while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure a smooth workflow within the medical office setting.
- Utilize electronic health record systems such as Epic for documenting patient information and managing appointments.
- Provide support for pediatric patients by creating a welcoming environment and assisting with any special needs.
Requirements
- Previous experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures related to eye care.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients of all ages, including pediatrics.
- Proficiency in managing medical records and front desk operations within a medical office environment.
- Ability to perform basic clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and conducting preliminary eye tests.
- Experience with electronic health record systems like Epic is a plus.
