Optometric doctor assistant

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support optometrists in providing exceptional eye care services to our patients. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, a friendly demeanor, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Duties

• Assist optometrists during patient examinations by preparing the examination room and ensuring all necessary equipment is ready for use.
• Perform preliminary tests such as measuring visual acuity, taking vital signs, and recording medical history.
• Manage front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, checking in patients, and handling medical records.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient files while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
• Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure a smooth workflow within the medical office setting.
• Utilize electronic health record systems such as Epic for documenting patient information and managing appointments.
• Provide support for pediatric patients by creating a welcoming environment and assisting with any special needs.

Requirements

• Previous experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures related to eye care.
• Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients of all ages, including pediatrics.
• Proficiency in managing medical records and front desk operations within a medical office environment.
• Ability to perform basic clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and conducting preliminary eye tests.
• Experience with electronic health record systems like Epic is a plus.
• A positive attitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this role.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
