Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 6 months prior experience with laboratory rodents
- Familiar with IVC caging systems
- Can perform routine maintenance of cage racks and cage wash equipment
- Follow all SOPs and guidelines and maintain accurate records
- Email and MS office applications
- Ability to work weekends and rotating holidays to ensure 365 day per year coverage
- Ability to work well with others and with minimum supervision
- Observe and report any concerns in a timely manner
- Open to learning new tasks
- Work hours are 7AM – 4PM
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree, prefer science or animal related
- AALAS certification at ALAT or LAT level
- Ability to problem solve
- Participate in development of facility SOPs
Job Description
The Animal Care Technician oversees the upkeep of the animal facility in compliance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, university policies and procedures, and all relevant laws and regulations.
Job Duties
- Maintain the animal facility to meet the standards of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, University policy and all state, federal and local laws, and regulations.
- Work with the principal investigators, research staff, and students to maintain standards of animal care and space requirements.
- Follow schedule for equipment maintenance, cage changing and sanitizing, maintain rooms and corridors. Assess environmental conditions and report anything outside of the accepted ranges required to ensure animal health.
- Maintain animal feed, bedding, and supplies. Notify CRF manager if supplies are running low.
- Assist the CRF manager with the training of researchers, students, and animal care employees in all aspects of proper animal care.
- Perform routine maintenance of facility equipment.
