Responsible for providing quality undergraduate advice to current and prospective students, and serves as a resource for them and their parents.
Job Duties
Provide accurate and consistent information about academic planning and degree requirements, pre-majors and admission requirements for majorsProvide institutional assistance for students in major exploration, parallel planning, major change, major foreclosure, and other transitionsContribute to team goals in outreach efforts to at-risk student populationsClearly explain complex information related to institutional policies and proceduresCoordinate, plan, and prepare for advising sessionsEngage with undergraduate students in-person, virtually, and over the phoneHelp undergraduate students define and develop realistic educational and career goalsMaintain confidential student records through accurate and thorough documentationMaintain collaborative relationships with academic units and university partnersAcknowledge and research student concerns, collaborate with appropriate stakeholders, and advocate for solutions with a commitment to fairness and integrityRefer undergraduate students to appropriate resources for assistanceParticipate in university efforts toward recruitment and retention such as Bobcat Day and New Student OrientationProvide recommendations for continuous improvement of advising services and integrate practices aimed at improving the student experienceCommit to ongoing professional development and attainment of knowledge regarding industry advancements and best practices in academic advisingContribute to professional development initiatives for the Texas State Advising NetworkProvide clerical assistance as neededOther duties as assignedAdditional Information to Applicants
