Required Qualifications : Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Basic Networking Knowledge : Understanding of fundamental networking concepts such as TCP / IP, DNS, DHCP, and subnetting.
  • Experience with Network Hardware : Familiarity with configuring and managing network devices like routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Problem-Solving Skills : Ability to troubleshoot network issues using common tools and methodologies.
  • Operating System Proficiency : Experience with network management and configuration in operating systems like Windows, Linux, or macOS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting IT systems in Higher Education environment
  • Experience installing, testing, and maintaining physical network cabling (copper, fiber optic)
  • Experience with network automation and scripting
  • Experience with Cisco switches and Routers
  • Experience with Juniper Switches and Routers
  • Experience with Wireless networking solutions
  • Technical Certifications : Holding at least one entry-level networking certification, such as CompTIA Network , Cisco CCNA, or equivalent.

    Overview

    We are hiring a network specialist to support our multi-campus wired and wireless networks. You will be supporting a wide variety of network technologies, from layer-2 switches to virtualized MPLS routed network environments.

    About Us

    We are a small team that is responsible for operating all aspects of the Texas State University campus network. We operate a heterogeneous network with equipment from multiple manufacturers such as Cisco, Juniper,, and Ruckus Wireless and focus on open networking standards and solutions. We strive to maintain a highly reliable and available network infrastructure for the university community.

    About You

    We are looking for someone with a solid foundation of networking skills, who enjoys learning new things and solving problems. You should have strong interpersonal skills and must be able to work collaboratively with a team and interface with end-users and management. You must also be able to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve specific goals and complete assigned tasks and projects.

    Job Duties

  • Work trouble tickets to resolve end-user network problems.
  • Installation and configuration of campus network switches, routers, wireless access points, and related equipment.
  • Allocate and assign campus wide network IP address space.
  • Configure monitoring systems to monitor system status and alert on network failures and problems.
  • Automate network tasks using network management and automation tools and scripting.
  • Install software and firmware updates and security patches
  • Produce written documentation for network designs, processes, procedures, configurations, and network diagrams.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.
