Position Description :
Principal administrative officer of a college / library in the Texas Tech University System. The chief responsibility is the development, supervision, and operation of the academic programs of the college or school in accordance with established guidelines, governmental regulations, and the mission of Texas Tech. The dean and staff serve as consultants on all academic matters, such as course changes, choice of major, and degree requirements.

Major / Essential Functions :
Provides effective leadership in the medical education, research, and clinical service missions of the school
Collaborates with the faculty and staff to establish a shared vision and develop a comprehensive strategic plan for the next phase of growth for the school
Supports the dedicated faculty, staff, and learners to advance the school’s strategic priorities
Develops strong relationships with the executive leadership of TTUHSC El Paso, its component schools, and its affiliated clinical facilities
Oversees the conduct and quality of the undergraduate and graduate medical education programs, and ensures the success of the students and trainees
Provides coordinated oversight of the medical school curriculum
Ensures that the clinical environment provides high quality patient care and is conducive to the appropriate integration of the educational and research programs
Provides necessary support to establish a community of scholars to facilitate faculty and learners’ active participation in research and scholarly activities
Recruits, appoints, and supervises associate / assistant deans and department chairs
Appoints members of the standing committees based on recommendations and nominations made by the PLFSOM Faculty Council and the PLFSOM Academic Council
Prepares and administers the budget of the PLFSOM
Serves as a member of the TTUHSC El Paso President’s Executive Committee
Maintains a visible presence in the community and seeks opportunities to advance the school through philanthropy and community foundation partnerships
Participates personally in teaching, scholarship, and / or clinical service
Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations
Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
Upholds and promotes the values‐based culture of TTUHSC El Paso
Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine’s Declaration of Faculty of Professional Responsibilities

Required Qualifications :
MD degree, MD / PhD degrees, or equivalent degree
Texas medical license, or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas
Board Certification in the candidate’s specialty / discipline by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties
Leadership experience at the level of Department Chair, Vice‐Chair, Division Chief, Associate Dean, or other comparable experience
Established national reputation in academic medicine
Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of full professor
