Major/Essential Functions
Provides patient care in the Emergency Department
Participate in the development of curricula for the Tactical Medicine fellowship program and the residency program
Supervises medical EMS fellows, residents, and students
Provides performance evaluations, skill testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows, and medical students
Participates in resident and faculty recruitment
Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in the Emergency Department
Assists Department Chair with implementation of departmental policies and monitoring staffing effectiveness
Option to serve as Director or Assistant EMS director or equivalent position for local or regional EMS agencies with which the department enters into agreements, upon Department Chair request.
Option to serve as a response physician to local law enforcement agencies
Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship
Participates in medical school and hospital committees
Assists with development and implementation of special departmental projects; conference presentations to residents, students, nurses, and EMTs
Participates in chart audits and other clinical performance improvement efforts.
Attends and participates in morbidity-mortality conference and journal clubs
Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance such as committee work and emergency medicine professional organizations
Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission
Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility.
Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures, and processes
Upholds and promotes the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso
Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Attends mandatory training provided and required by Texas Tech University
Required Qualifications
MD or DO degree
Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine
Successful completion of ACGME-accredited fellowship program in Emergency Medical Services, or successful completion of fellowship in Tactical Medicine, or one year of Tactical Medicine training and/or practice
Valid unrestricted Texas medical license, or eligibility for medical licensure in Texas
Preferred Qualifications
Board Certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine
Knowledge and/or training in research, pediatric emergency medicine, occupational and environmental medicine, or preventative medicine
Experience in teaching residents and medical students
Evidence of growth in clinical, teaching, and research activities relating to the specialty
Knowledge of Medical Spanish
Experience in Tactical EMS operations
Emerging or established regional or national reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or higher
