Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for fleet maintenance operations to optimize vehicle performance, minimize downtime, and reduce operating costs.
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of mechanics and staff to ensure high performance, productivity, and adherence to safety standards.
- Develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs to ensure timely servicing and inspections of all vehicles in the fleet. Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to procure parts and materials as needed.
- Oversee maintenance software and recordkeeping.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to mechanics and staff in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in various types of vehicles, including trucks and trailers.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and company policies related to fleet maintenance, safety, and environmental protection. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
- Manage the fleet maintenance budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring costs, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of fleet maintenance operations. Generate regular reports and analysis to track performance against targets and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as operations and logistics, to optimize fleet utilization, routing, and scheduling. Recommend strategies for fleet expansion, replacement, or retirement based on lifecycle analysis and cost-benefit considerations.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the quality, reliability, and efficiency of fleet maintenance processes and procedures. Encourage innovation and best practices within the maintenance team.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Automative Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
- Proven experience (7 years) in fleet maintenance management, or related roles, with a track record of progressively increasing responsibilities
- In-depth knowledge of vehicle systems, components, and diagnostic techniques.
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed while sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
- Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time
- Normal office environment and/or maintenance shop environment
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering shop floor equipment to access, inspect, or oversee shop work
- Requires occasional travel outside service area
- Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, gloves, etc.)
- May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
