TITLE

Recruitment and Retention Ambassador - SHPK

JOB SUMMARY

The Recruitment and Retention Ambassador is responsible for the coordination of school-level academic advising initiatives in alignment with university academic advising practices and college and school priorities. Coordination of advising events; assessment of advising; and the implementation of student-centered advising practices at the school level are key components of responsibility. The coordinator also provides individual and group assistance to students in the form of meetings, workshops, and seminars surrounding academic advising and academic support. Work is performed independently under limited supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policy & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Assistant Director, School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology

Supervises: SHPK Academic Advisors. May supervise Student Assistants

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

  • Manages the advising operations for the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology
  • Coordinates and collaborates on campus-wide advising initiatives and programs with guidance from Assistant Director
  • Coordinates school-wide academic advising initiatives with guidance from Assistant Director and School Director.
  • Onboards and trains advisors, ensuring consistency and compliance with policies and procedures across advisors. Holds weekly advising meetings for advising staff.
  • Leads school-level academic advising components with school leadership.
  • Assists in coordination and representation of advising at events such as orientation, admissions, and other campus activities.
  • Develops and implements common experiences for students surrounding academic advising at the school level in alignment with university advising practices and school advising priorities.
  • Assists in the overall assessment of advising practices and conducts school-level advising assessment.
  • Advises students, analyzes and processes degree audits and required academic forms.
  • Meets individually and in groups with at-risk students regarding advising and academic support.
  • Serves as a liaison to faculty advisors, school director, and other school and college personnel.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and support of advising related technology.
  • Produces and distributes school-level advising reports.
  • Monitors and makes recommendations regarding school-level professional advising standards and retention initiatives.
  • Ensures alignment with professional best-practices.
  • Provides guidance and feedback to school Assistant Director in relation to performance of school academic advisors.
  • Receives input from school Director and Assistant Director in relation to academic advising at the school level.
  • Assists at orientation events and orientation advising.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Supports the overall efforts of university academic advising by assisting campus colleagues as needed.
  • Assist with school and college-specific special projects as requested.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree required, higher education, counseling, or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE

One year of academic advising in a higher education setting are required, 3 years are preferred.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

  • Have a working knowledge of student development and student retention.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural competence.
  • Basic knowledge of data collection, analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience with academic advising and student success initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team oriented environment.
  • Self-starter demonstrating initiative in a fast-paced higher education environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Experience developing and presenting workshops or training.
  • Knowledge of academic programming related to advising and academic support.
  • Knowledge of professional advising standards and practices.
  • Knowledge and application of principles and ethics associated with developmental academic advising.
  • Proficient organizational, administrative, and planning skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain databases, reports, and processes.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with diverse departments, institution-wide.
  • Knowledge of university programs, policies, and practices.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Communicates effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  • Represents the academic unit and University in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including university related software and email.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
