What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Keeper position at Texas Zoofari Park?
Texas Zoofari Park, a 900-acre drive through zoo and breeding center, is expanding and searching for additional keepers. We maintain an inventory of 1000 specimens comprised of large groups of hoofed stock as well as a "petting area village" comprised of a walk-through aviary, giraffe and kangaroo and a domestic petting area. This position requires a person with excellent observational skills and a strong work ethic. All keepers will be responsible for the daily care of the animals. Full-time keepers are required to maintain their animal records as well as assist in breeding programs. Applicants must possess a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and excellent communication skills. Ability to follow a strict personal dress code and maintain a valid driver’s license is required. Have the ability to work independently and utilize time management to complete tasks.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in an animal science, biology, or science related field is preferred
- Experience may be substituted for a degree
- For the safari: domestic hoof stock experience is acceptable
- Minimum of 6 months paid animal care experience
- Strong work ethic, good physical conditions and a willingness to learn
- Must be able to adhere to our strict personal appearance requirements
- Maintain a non-smoking work environment
- Have the ability to work in all weather conditions
- Experience in using or willing to learn to use trucks, tractors, and other types of equipment
- Valid Driver’s license
- Weekend and holiday work are required
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Daily cleaning and maintenance of exhibits.
- Diet preparation and feeding.
- Assist in vet and medical procedures.
- Daily observation of animals including for injuries, breeding, and general healthcare.
- Administer proper enrichment to various animal species.
- Help with capture, moving, and handling of large hoofstock according to set policies and procedures.
- Use large machinery, power tools, and lawn equipment in a safe manner.
- Must be able to communicate and give keeper talks/encounters to guests through formal and informal encounters.

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
