Texoma Medical Center, a 414-bed acute care facility, has been providing quality health care to the residents of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1965. Our main campus is located in Denison, Texas, approximately one hour north of the Dallas / Fort Worth area and just south of the Texas / Oklahoma border. Position Summary
This position is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating Therapeutic Recreation and leisure programs for psychiatric patients, including group leisure time and physical education activities, which are designed to maximize the social, physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning of patients to attain a desirable quality of leisure life.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of therapeutic recreation, physical education, dance movement, music therapy, or related field.
- Requires at least one (1) year of experience providing instruction in a recreational program or in a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Previous experience in behavioral healthcare is strongly preferred.
- Certification or Licensure as a Recreational, Occupational, Music, Art, or Yoga Therapist required. BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting. Handle with Care and Verbal De-Escalation training must be completed during new hire orientation and annually prior to working in a clinical setting. Additional training to be completed within the respective timeline.
- Demonstrate a caring, friendly, and professional demeanor with the ability to encourage and appropriately support others. Demonstrate knowledge of and exhibit skill in evaluating and treating adolescent, adult, and geriatric persons with psychosocial and cognitive problems. Must be able to communicate and work effectively with people of differing educational and cultural backgrounds. Must be organized and able to prioritize activities. Must be cognizant of age-appropriate activities. Practices teamwork.
