An established global telecoms and data centre services provider is expanding its US field engineering team and is seeking a Data Centre Metro Engineer to deliver high-quality deployment and first-line maintenance services. This role involves hands-on responsibility for building, testing, and maintaining network infrastructure across high-demand client sites.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically skilled and customer-focused engineer to join a business delivering services for some of the world’s largest tech and telecoms companies.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carry out fiber and cable pulling, dressing, labelling, securing, and termination (fusion and ribbon splicing).
- Install containment systems (basket work, metalwork) and perform basic rack and stack services.
- Deliver first-line maintenance and on-site fault resolution across fiber and copper infrastructure.
- Conduct continuity, test and measurement of cable and fiber runs, including OTDR and Ethernet/OSA testing.
- Perform Cat x and E1 copper terminations.
- Support installation and commissioning of telecoms equipment in both project and maintenance environments.
- Carry out electrical connectivity work up to 240V AC and 48V DC (excludes power-up).
- Manage and maintain all documentation including Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and test reports.
- Work within SLA timelines, responding to faults and service requests efficiently.
- Engage in on-call rotation, providing out-of-hours emergency response as needed.
- Provide feedback to project teams and report progress to internal service desk.
What We’re Looking For:
- Demonstrable experience in telecoms infrastructure builds and I&C (Install & Commissioning).
- Skilled in fiber and copper terminations, splicing, and structured cabling installations.
- Familiar with commissioning standards to “green light and connectivity” level.
- Hands-on experience with optical transmission systems and equipment from Ciena, Nokia, Juniper, Cisco, Infinera, Huawei (desirable).
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills using OTDR and Ethernet testing tools.
- Excellent understanding of Health & Safety procedures and quality standards.
- High attention to detail in report writing and documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage client-facing situations confidently.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, Outlook); Visio experience is essential.
- Flexible and proactive approach to working hours and travel requirements.
- Must hold a valid US Driving License and have full right to work.
