Instructional Coach
Thacher Elementary School
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Current Massachusetts certification as an Academic Coach
- Previous Coaching Experience preferred
Exceptions to the above qualifications shall be made as the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable.
JOB GOAL/PURPOSE: A coach’s primary responsibility is to work with teachers and administration to promote instructional growth and increase student learning.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Assistant Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITY:
Current District Elementary Curriculum:
- Everyday Math – Grades K-4 (in process of moving to a new curriculum)
- Collaborative Literacy (CCC) – Grades K-2
- Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – Grades 3-4
- Empowering Writers – Grades 2-4
- Mystery Science
- Additional Curriculum Resources
Curriculum Development:
- Support the professional growth of teachers by increasing classroom teachers’ understanding of content and instructional practice.
- Facilitate opportunities for teachers to develop an understanding of national, state and district standards and grade-level benchmarks that identify the “essential learning” for their students
Instructional Support:
- Align instruction with curriculum to meet the needs of all students by meeting with teachers during common planning, one-to-one meetings, and staff meetings
- Plan lessons – collaboratively with teams and/or individual teachers that allow all students to reach high standards
- Provide support for small group instruction by planning and monitoring MTSS intervention
- Demonstrate lesson components in teachers’ classrooms and/or provide opportunities for peer observations.
District and School Administrative Support:
- Assist administration in the planning and implementation of state testing and subsequent collection, analysis and sharing of student data
- Plan and facilitate communication between administration and parents regarding the curriculum content
- Perform other responsibilities as deemed appropriate and assigned by a supervisor and/or designee
